Places for Everyone

Funded by the Scottish Government, Places for Everyone is IJ̳’ permanent infrastructure fund for Scotland.

Places for Everyone provides advice, support, expertise and funding for the creation of infrastructure which makes it easier for people to walk, wheel and cycle for more of their everyday journeys.

We currently have more than 250 projects at various stages of development, ranging from multi-million pound transformations in cities to new walking routes between some of our smallest communities.

The National Cycle Network in Scotland

We are custodians of the National Cycle Network in Scotland, a network of signed paths and routes for walking, wheeling, cycling.

While much of the Network belongs to various landowners, who are ultimately responsible for their own stretch, IJ̳ staff and volunteers help them to maintain, improve and develop their routes.

Our vision is to work at pace and scale with these partners with funding from Transport Scotland to create a network of traffic-free paths for everyone, connecting cities, towns and countryside and loved by the communities they serve.

Policy and influencing

IJ̳ Scotland successfully influences policy development to ensure that active travel is prioritised when it comes to transport decarbonisation, planning and town centre regeneration.

We work closely with the Scottish Government, local authorities, government agencies and elected officials in order to achieve this aim.

We also work in partnership with cities on the Walking and Cycling Index. These annual reports inform policy decisions and justify investment in walking, wheeling and cycling.

Read the Walking and Cycling Index for Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, Perth and Stirling.
